Bio
My name is Jeremy Baker, I am a nineteen year old male from Kittery, Maine. During the winter, fall, and spring months I live in Orono, Maine and study New Media at the University of Maine. In the summer I go home to my mom and dad and two cats. My summer time job is working grounds on a golf course, I enjoy it a lot because it keeps me in shape and I get to be outside, before that I was a dishwasher at a restaurant and a deckhand on my dad’s lobster boat, which is why, to me, my current job is ten folds better. In my spare time I like hanging out with my friends, watching TV, playing video games, messing around on the computer, kayaking, camping, and eating delicious food. I also like playing sports. I’ll play any sport that keeps you active, but my favorite has to be baseball which I played all throughout highschool. I have been to some pretty cool places in my life, including England, and France as a student ambassador for the People to People program. We visited some really interesting places like Stonehenge, the Normandy beaches and Notre Dame. I have also been to Jamaica for a personal trip with my mom that was very awesome.
Creative Statement
I am in the new media major because thinking about future technologies and what we can accomplish with them is very interesting. Also, looking at how people are coming up with ideas to make human and computer interaction more and more seamless is pretty amazing too. I am motivated to find something that I like to learn about and will enjoy doing as a career, hopefully be able to make a bunch of money at the same time. If those three things come together I believe that will make me a pretty happy camper and be able to live a happy life. I think I am geared more for the design side of new media. I already tried the more technical side of computers with computer science. I didn’t enjoy it, especially the programming. New media gets away from that, and allows a little wiggle room for creativity and some design. I see my future career having to do something with computers, as long as it has some design aspect and allows me to be somewhat creative, it will keep me interested and motivated.
